Maurice Broschart

My name is Maurice Broschart and I am a French language teacher at a private school in Hong Kong. I have been teaching since 2011, working with various age groups ranging from grades 3 to 12 as well as with adult learners at the College level. I am passionate about teaching the French language and sharing information about French-speaking communities and cultures from around the world. With global mindedness and intercultural understanding in mind, I strongly believe that today’s French language learners need to be exposed to more than the city of Paris and the province of Quebec. For instance, did you know that France has 12 time zones (the most of any country in the world) because of its overseas territories and departments? Did you know that Africa far exceeds France and Europe as having the most francophones with 120 million people in 24 countries? 

 

Connected to teaching, I am passionate about learning about how to incorporate equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom and in my school. I believe that every student should have equal opportunities to learn and to succeed, regardless of their background or identity. I strive to create a safe and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued, respected and safe. 

 

I am also interested in the use of technology in education, hence why I am pursuing my Masters degree in this field. I believe that technology can be a powerful tool to enhance language learning and to engage and empower students. I enjoy exploring new ways to integrate technology into my teaching and finding innovative solutions to improve the learning experience for my students.

 

In my free time, I enjoy reading, listening to music and watching movies and television series. Having relocated to Hong Kong in 2022, I have the privilege of being able to travel easily around Asia and have recently traveled to the Philippines and Vietnam. My partner and I will be visiting India next month and plan on visiting Indonesia in the summertime.

Tamaka Fisher

My name is Tamaka Fisher and I acknowledge that I am an uninvited settler on the unceded, ancestral and stolen territories of the the qʼʷa:n̓ƛʼən̓ (Kwantlen) and q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie)First Nations and the Stó:lõ Peoples. I am grateful to my hosts for the privilege of living, working, and studying in this life-giving place. In the cause of reconciliation, I recognize my responsibility to reduce ongoing systemic colonialism, oppression, and racism that Indigenous peoples continue to experience.

My undergrad degree is in Leadership from Trinity Western University and am currently expecting to graduate with a Master of Educational Technology from the University of British Columbia in May 2024. I am also certified as a Career Development Practitioner. My current role is in Accessibility Services at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, where I have supported students with diverse abilities for the last four years. The students I see have impairments which may be physical, developmental, cognitive, sensory, and psychological. I work to reduce educational barriers by providing academic accommodations and working together with instructors to create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment. I also have many years working in both the public and private sectors. I am deeply interested in digital learning and social justice.

Hi, I'm Nicole Magne, a project manager with 18 years of experience supporting education in Manitoba's First Nations communities. Before I became a project manager, I worked in multimedia, video, and web production, creating educational content and resources for the same purpose. Through my extensive knowledge and experience in the field, I have managed numerous successful projects and initiatives that have positively impacted the education of First Nations youth in Manitoba. It has been my pleasure to work towards creating a better educational environment for the children of Manitoba's First Nations, and I am excited to continue this work for years to come.
