Making Philosophy

The following video is an introduction to both my maker experience and how I relate the act of making to learning pedagogies. The video contains a transcription and narration.

Reflection

I was born in Japan and grew up, for the most part, in Canada. I work in tertiary education in accessibility services at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and have a passion for equity, diversity, inclusion, decolonization, anti-racism, and social justice. I came from very humble beginnings and have been 'Othered' (Pirbhai-Illich et al. 2017, p 9), although the original othering  began in 1492 with the colonization of the Indigenous Peoples in the Americas (Burton & Osorio 2017, p 22). I recognize my privilege as an uninvited settler, with my education, and as and able-bodied person.

This assignment provided the opportunity to gather my thoughts on making from a linear history and what I can do in the future with the teachings from this course. Culturally responsive pedagogy (Pirbhai-Illich et al. 2017) will be one of the E.D.I.D.A. lenses that I will now use in my practice and share with others.
